Our Core Curriculum
Atelier San Juan is focused on offering a traditional approach to drawing and painting, and we encourage students to undertake drawing fundamentals before beginning to paint in oils. Students are offered an individualized structured core curriculum that begins with light and shade theory, perspective, proportion, and the study of basic inanimate forms. All assignments are reinforced by encouraging students to work diligently on individual projects and sketchbooks. The study of oil painting is recommended once the student has demonstrated proficiency in drawing and composition. Students begin their painting practices by learning about their materials and the various historical techniques used by past masters. Once students have gained the necessary skills in both drawing and painting, a thorough study of the live model is encouraged through our intensive advanced workshops.
